A vehicle fire closed northbound State Route 17 just north of Glenwood Drive early Friday near Scotts Valley, backing up the morning commute before lanes gradually reopened, according to the California Highway Patrol in Santa Cruz.
CHP said the incident began around 6:30 a.m. on Feb. 13, prompting a full northbound closure in the area. A video shared by CHP Santa Cruz showed the burning vehicle as first responders arrived.

By 6:48 a.m., fire crews were on scene, CHP reported. At 7:17 a.m., the fire was extinguished and the left lane reopened, though traffic remained backed up from Granite Creek Road. CHP advised drivers to expect delays and use alternate routes.
All lanes on northbound SR-17 at Glenwood Drive were cleared and reopened by 10:00 a.m.
No information on injuries or the cause of the fire was immediately available.
