A suspected DUI crash on Wednesday night left a key Soquel intersection closed for nearly 12 hours after a vehicle brought down live power lines, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The single-vehicle collision occurred around 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, at the intersection of Soquel San Jose Road and Soquel Turnpike Road.
In an alert to the public, the CHP’s Santa Cruz division announced that the crash had knocked power lines completely across the roadway, creating a hazardous situation and forcing a full closure of the intersection.
Authorities urged drivers to avoid the area and find alternate routes while emergency and utility crews worked to safely clear the scene. The duration of the closure was initially unknown due to the complex nature of dealing with downed electrical lines.
In an update provided early Thursday morning, the CHP confirmed that the roadway was cleared and safe for travel. Soquel San Jose Road was fully reopened to traffic at 7:00 a.m. on February 5.
Details regarding the driver involved in the crash, including whether they sustained injuries or were arrested, have not yet been released.
