Next month, the California Mid-State Fair will debut the Kindness Corner. The spot will be located inside the Flower Building. The Kindness Corner will offer guests a quiet place to relax and take a break from the excitement of the fair.
The idea for the Kindness Corner was inspired by Miss California Mid-State Fair Winner Skye Davis.
In 2025, Davis participated in the Miss California Mid-State Fair Scholarship Pageant. During the pageant, she made a “fair proposal.”
As part of her proposal, she challenged contestants to think of ways to improve the experience at fairs.
The Kindness Corner was Davis’s idea.
“I wanted to create a space where children and families could slow down, recharge, and feel supported during their Fair visit,” Davis told KSBY. “It’s exciting to see this idea come to life and provide a place where guests can enjoy a moment of calm during a busy day at the Fair.”
The addition marks a new feature for this year’s fair and highlights the impact that pageant participants can have beyond the competition itself. What began as a proposal from Davis during the scholarship pageant will now become part of the fair experience for thousands of visitors this summer.
The relaxation space will debut on Kids Day, July 24, on Friday.
Every year, Kids Day is one of the most popular days of the California Mid-State Fair, which is held annually at the Paso Robles Event Center.
On Kids Day, guests age 12 or younger get free admission.
For no charge, children get to enjoy the fair’s many carnival rides, exhibits, live shows, livestock, and now the Kindness Corner.
Additionally, from July 15 to 26, the 2026 Miss California Mid-State Fair Scholarship Pageant program will take place again.
The program offers local young women opportunities to lead, make a difference in their community, and win scholarships.
This year’s pageant begins on Wednesday, July 15, at 6 p.m. on the 805 Frontier Stage, which is located at the south end of the fair.
The “kindest” thing for the Mid-State Fair to do would be to stop having rodeos and petting zoos. Those poor animals.
