The region near Loma Linda in San Bernardino County was jolted by earthquakes on the morning of June 9.
A 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck 7 kilometers southeast of Loma Linda at 9:36 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The epicenter was located at a depth of 5.4 kilometers.
The quake produced noticeable shaking, with more than 390 people feeling the earthquake, according to the USGS’s ‘Did You Feel It?’ earthquake reporting tool.
The shaking was felt at places as far as Quartz Hill (119 kilometers from the epicenter) and Sherman Oaks (115 kilometers).
The USGS categorized the earthquake as Level III intensity, which indicates weak shaking and no damage.
The tremor was initially reported as a 3.4 magnitude event, but was later revised to 3.2, according to The Fresno Bee report.
The tremor was followed by another quake in the next hour at the same epicenter.
A 2.8-magnitude earthquake was reported 7 kilometers southeast of Loma Linda at 10:45 a.m., according to the USGS.
Similar to the earlier tremor, the epicenter of the next tremor was located at a depth of 5.3 kilometers.
The quake was felt by 94 people, who reported experiencing the seismic event using the ‘Did You Feel It?’ reporting system.
The shaking was felt at places as far as 115 kilometers away from the epicenter.
The USGS categorized the seismic event as Level III intensity.
An earthquake’s magnitude measures the size of a quake, while the intensity denotes the shaking at each location, varying from place to place.
No injuries or damage were reported as a result of the two earthquakes.
Earthquakes that occur at shallow depths typically result in more intense and noticeable shaking than quakes that occur deeper. The intensity of shaking from a seismic event tends to weaken as distance from the earthquake’s source increases.

The San Andreas Fault system, which stretches nearly 1,200 kilometers from the Salton Sea in the south to offshore Cape Mendocino in the north, is the largest in the region.
These faults, along with a network of related fault lines, result in frequent earthquakes across California.
