The California Highway Patrol in Santa Cruz reported multiple weather-related road impacts tied to downed trees on power lines.

  • Old Santa Cruz Highway at Schulties Road: Closed at 8:23 a.m. on February 16, 2026, due to a tree down on power lines. CHP announced the roadway reopened at 5:21 a.m. on February 17.

  • Thurber Lane: As of 9:24 a.m. on February 17, 2026, Thurber Lane is shut between Helen Avenue and Benson Avenue because of a downed tree on wires. CHP said the closure is expected to last approximately 45 minutes. Drivers are asked to avoid the area. Duration is subject to change based on conditions.

With rain ongoing, CHP reminded motorists to use headlights and windshield wipers, slow down, and keep a safe distance from other vehicles. For updates, follow CHP Santa Cruz.
