This SBWPC Virtual Friendraiser event will feature Women's Rights and Civil Rights Attorney Wendy Murphy, JD, who will update us on latest news regarding the status of the Equal Rights Amendment and strategies for moving this important legislation past the final hurdles to ratification. This free event occurs on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 5 PM. This Zoom event with is our 2nd Friendraiser sponsored by the SBWPC Membership and ERA Committees.
SBWPC's "ERA: Now?"
This 90-min. Zoom event features Dr. Carrie N. Baker, Professor of Women’s & Gender Studies at Smith College, MA. Carrie Baker is also a Contributing Editor for Ms. Magazine. She will lead our interactive virtual event centered on getting the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) past the last hurdle and on to its overdue passage into law. Dr. Baker is an attorney as well, and her recent co-authored textbook is entitled Sexual Harassment Law: History, Cases and Practices (2020).
SBWPC’s “What’s Next for the Feminist Agenda?” A Conversation with Holly Mitchell, Los Angeles County Supervisor
This 90-min. Zoom event features Supervisor Holly Mitchell, who serves on the Los Angeles County's Board of Supervisors, and is the force behind the groundbreaking Crown Act that prohibits hair discrimination in the workplace. Santa Barbara County 3rd District Supervisor Joan Hartmann joins to discuss the topic: “What’s Next?” This will be a 20-minute discussion format with Supervisor Mitchell, Helene Schneider, and a Young Feminist member, including an open chat box. The last 10 minutes will be pre-recorded questions.

SBWPC's Cosmopolitics is Back! You Are Invited
Following last year’s momentous 30th Anniversary celebrations, the Santa Barbara Women’s Political Committee (SBWPC) brings back “Cosmopolitics.” One of SBWPC’s most popular events. Cosmopolitics is a popular evening event of cocktails, friendship, and feminist political talk. Keynote Speaker CA Assembly Member Wendy Carrillo is a former journalist elected in 2017 to represent the 51st District (East Los Angeles), and just one of the evening’s highlights. Carrillo came to the US from El Salvador as a child, and became politically active by the time she was in high school.

SBWPC Carpinteria Friendraiser
SBWPC Carpinteria Friendraiser is a new community event for women interested in becoming more involved in the political affairs of the Carpinteria and Summerland region.
The Santa Barbara Women's Political Committee wants to expand its successful Friendraiser mixers to Carpinteria so that its countywide presence can be developed. SBWPC aims to increase its countywide membership.

Little Stones Screening-Award Winning Documentary Film
From a graffiti artist speaking out against domestic violence in the favelas of Brazil to a dancer rehabilitating sex-trafficking survivors in India, Little Stones profiles four women, each of whom are contributing a stone to the mosaic of the women’s movement through their art. The film and accompanying education initiative have been designed to raise awareness about global women’s rights issues, and to celebrate creative, entrepreneurial, and arts-therapy based solutions to the most pressing challenges facing women globally.
