    Volunteer Training for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

    United Way of Santa Barbara County (UWSBC) is recruiting volunteers to help local families and individuals prepare their tax returns and practice financial responsibility as part of its annual Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Volunteer training will include the opportunity to become an IRS Certified tax preparer. No prior experience is necessary to volunteer.

    General Election Voter Registration Drive

    The Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara (HACSB) is teaming up with the League of Women Voters of Santa Barbara to ensure its residents and the community are registered to vote in the Nov. 6 general election.

    League of Women Voters and HACSB representatives will be on hand to assist voters who want to register or update their registration if they have moved or changed names. The effort is part of National Voter Registration Day, a massive 50-state effort to register voters before Election Day this November.

    Landlord Luncheon: Section 8 Info Session

    Local landlords, property owners and managers can learn about the Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara’s new Section 8 incentives and more at a free, Sept. 26 luncheon.

    On Oct. 1, HACSB will re-open applications for its Section 8 program, which assists low-income, working families, the elderly and the disabled afford decent, safe housing in the private market. HACSB directly pays landlords a housing subsidy on behalf of the participating residents.

    Give back to the community by joining United Way of Santa Barbara County (UWSBC) at its 27th Annual Day of Caring, the largest single-day volunteer event in the tri-counties.

    More than 1,200 volunteers will come together to carry out a variety of service projects throughout Santa Barbara, Carpinteria and Goleta. This will include a special Montecito neighborhood clean-up and rebuilding project that is being organized in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County.
