Myco-color: Mushrooms for Dye and Pigment
Natural Dye enthusiasts and Guild members Anna Bower and Hallie Silva will share information and photos from a Julie Beeler Workshop: Mushroom Color Atlas. Their presentation will include South Coast area mushroom identification for dye; methods for successful mushroom dye baths; and using exhaust dye baths for pigment making.
Anna is the Assistant Curator of Living Collections at Ganna Walska Lotusland. She enjoys propagating and harvesting dye plants, knitting, and making plant-based pigments for paint.
A Conversation with John Novak
All fiber arts enthusiasts are invited to this in person meeting of the Santa Barbara Fiber Arts Guild.
John Novak will share how his encounters with weaving from coast to coast which led to the purchase of his first loom and eventually becoming the co-proprietor of Solvang’s Village Spinning & Weaving Shop from 1992 to 2017; which can now be found online: www.villagespinweave.com.

Return of the Butterflies: Community Memorial Altar at Paradise Found
Inspired by the celebrations of Samhain and Dias de los Muertos, the general public is invited to add names of deceased loved ones to the Community Altar using butterfly clips.
A universal symbol of transformation & hope, butterflies have long been associated with spirits of deceased loved ones in cultures across the globe. With this in mind, local artist Rebecca Zendejas approached Paradise Found the summer of 2020, with the idea to create a community memorial altar. The altar is now a beloved annual event.
The shop is open daily from 11am to 6pm.
One a Day - How Life Informs Process: A Discussion with Lydia Hall
Lydia will discuss her work with metal and fiber in multiples; as well as the creative process of embracing the limitations of time and space, while finding unique solutions that allow an art practice to continue. Q & A to follow discussion.

Silk Paint Demonstration & Discussion
Silk Painter, Serge Nepomnin will share an overview of his silk painting; discussing and demonstrating his creative process using a variety of silk painting techniques; concentrating on his preferred method, the Serti technique. There will be a time for Q&A at the end of the demonstration.

"Coming Together", an exhibit of the Santa Barbara Fiber Arts Guild
"Coming Together" for the first time in over two years, the amazing skills and artistry of the Santa Barbara Fiber Arts Guild will be on exhibit in the lobby of the Goleta Valley Library. On display will be a wide variety of handcrafted items that have been assembled, knit, woven, stitched, felted and naturally dyed. Some items will be available for purchase, directly supporting local artisans.

Altared Memories - Creative Ways to Remember Loved Ones.

Local artist and woodworker, Rebecca Zendejas will be creating another Community Memorial Altar at Paradise Found this month, inspired by the celebrations of Samhain and Dias de los Muertos. If you have lost someone dear, you are invited to stop by October 22nd through November 3rd to add their name(s) to the altar.
