Figueroa Mountain Pile Burns Continue

The pile burns will continue in the Figueroa Mountain areas this week and next week.

The Santa Barbara Air Pollution Control District announced the burns will continue to take place through March 12 as conditions allow. The goal is to reduce the risk of wildfire by preventing the threat of spreading and reducing impacts to watersheds that can result in soil loss and sedimentation.

The Los Padres National Forest Service reports the Figueroa Mountain was heavily impacted by the drought and disease that killed tens of millions of trees statewide. Los Padres fire crews are now working to safely reduce the fuels on the forest floor and enhance the resiliency of the natural environment so the area can return to a healthy state.

The Figueroa Mountain area is temporarily closed for public safety and to provide Forest employees the space they need to complete this project.
