Explore Ecology Monthly Cleanups take place at Arroyo Burro Beach, one of Santa Barbara’s most gorgeous beaches. Beach Cleanups are a great way for families, businesses, and groups to volunteer together.

    Beach cleanups are on the 2nd Sunday of the Month from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

    Meet us at the Watershed Resource Center at 10:00 am to sign in. BYOB- Please bring your own bag, bucket, and gloves. If you don’t have them, we will have supplies for you!

    Learn about the magic of indigo, a plant-based dye that has been used for thousands of years to create many hues of blue. Guest artist Derek Horn will teach us how to mix an indigo dye vat to get the most from this natural pigment.

    Participants will learn Shibori techniques, the Japanese art of shaped resist dyeing, to create beautiful designs on fabric. Everyone will leave with their own indigo creation and basic knowledge of the indigo process from plant to pigment.

    Intro to Weaving Workshop

    Learn the basics of weaving on a cardboard loom made of reuse materials. Guest artist Derek Horn will teach you weaving ideas and basics to create beautiful woven pieces, used for wall hangings, trivets, or anything else you can think of.

    Derek Horn is a local fiber artist who teaches our very popular indigo workshops. This is sure to be a fun night of creativity and fiber arts!

    The workshop includes all materials necessary for your weaving, a 14 x 11 inch loom made from cardboard for you to take home, one glass of wine, and two hours of instruction.

    Emerging Artists Opening and Reception

    Art From Scrap and Art Without Limits (AWoL) start the New Yearwith an art opening and reception for AWoL's Emerging Artists on February 2, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The evening is a party, exhibition, and fundraiser and is the third collaboration between the two nonprofits. The public is invited to this free, fun, and festive event.

    This year's Emerging Artists are Sol Hill, Tom Pazderka, Daniel Newman-Lessler, Elite Henenson, Dan La Bellarte, Catherine Bennett, Cecily Stewart, and Derrick Curtis.

    Area 5.1 Golf Classic Fundraiser for Explore Ecology

    The Area 5.1 Golf Classic is back! Billed as the most relaxed fundraiser in town, proceeds from this year’s Golf Classic will benefit Explore Ecology. The tournament, on Friday August 25th, at 12:00 pm, is a Four Person Scramble held at the scenic Glen Annie Golf Club. Please join us! Now, in its 15th year, the Tournament and Dinner are low-key, relaxed, and so much fun.
