High School Sports Injuries

It's the end of the second game, the tallest girl of the opposing team does a rhythmic run and jump ending
with an aggressive hit toward our side of the court. Within one second Santa Barbara's team is scattering
for the ball; one girl dives landing face first on the court only to come up covered in blood. This rouses the
crowd for a few moments until she is nonchalantly taken out of the game. See, injuries in high school
sports are expected; they are a risk players take when agreeing to participate. But it seems lately high
school injuries are taken too lightly and precautions are nearly neglected.
After this game I went online to find out just how common high school sport injuries were. Turns out 47%
percent of high school football players report having had at least one concussion and 33% had more than
one. It makes sense that as the competitiveness of our high school sports grows so does our risk of
injuries. High school is a time when we teenagers are still developing. Our brains our at our prime, making
it the wrong time to mess around with safety on the court or field. More precautions should be made and
the risks more carefully considered before entering into the spontaneous world of sports. It seems as
though high school sport injuries are a lot more common then most suspect.
