SOS California Celebration
updated: Sep 14, 2012, 11:47 AM

By Judy Rossiter

Last Thursday, September 6th, SOS California celebrated its 5th anniversary at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum. This celebration in honor of our dear friend and Co-founder, Lad Handelman, was a great success -- Thank you ALL who attended and helped to make it so! According to the Maritime Museum's Director, Greg Gorga, it was a full house. The Heritage Foundation's Nick Loris spoke about the nation's current economic situation and when discussing California, stated "what's needed are more organizations like SOS". Mike Stoker, candidate for State Senate, presented a special award to Lad Handelman recognizing his achievements in the ocean.

The premier showing of SOS's latest film, The Road 2 Energy Independence, highlighted that by extracting the oil from leaking reservoirs, ocean and air pollution are reduced while bolstering California's economics. Special thanks to Dallas & Peter Clark for sponsoring the Santa Barbara Premier of the SOS short film. This short film (20 mins) is now available for private showings.

There's another important full-length film coming to Santa Barbara next week, spOILed, produced/directed by Mark Mathis. We hope you'll be able to attend this screening (see below) - and encourage you to bring your family, colleagues and friends -- it's sure to change what you think you know about oil.

Thanks again for the fun and support!

Locals, Tobe Plough and Mike Phau
