Milpas Cow?
updated: Sep 13, 2012, 3:19 PM

What's going on at the building with the cow on top at 901 Milpas? It looks like some kind of stalled renovation. Does anyone know what is planned for this space?

I believe it's just that -- a stalled renovation, now stagnant. It seems like no restaurant could make a go of it for very long in that location. And in this economy, it's probably too risky for someone to try right now.

To add to 514 - they WERE renovating, but didn't get the correct permits nor did they get approval from the appropriate boards (it's a historical building) so they were forced to stop until that happens. As far as I know.

No building is not a cash cow

The building is by the local well-known '30's architect D'Alfonso.

That's such a great looking building. I'd like to see it turn into a stylish coffee shop within walkable distance to the Lower Riviera neighborhood.

Blenders in that spot would make a killing.

I hope the cow always stays. We need more art, more creativity in a town that is Disneyfied with the common theme of red-tiled roofs. It's too much sometimes. And please don't tell me to move. I was born & raised here and I'm grateful, its just that I've seen all the art diminish over the years and we could be a little more artistic and creative... like Berkeley.

That such a building in that location can't make a go of it is a sad commentary on the lack of imagination of the local enterpreneurial community (or the greed and shortsightedness of the owner). Holy shit ... put such a place in a walkable neighborhood in San Francisco or West L.A.!

THE COW IS GOING TO STAY. It was stalled but never stopped and is now moving foward I wont go into the details but the deck is going back to the origional design. Now here is an update it is not going to be a starbucks or a blenders. Hint! Hint! OK I'll tell you it will be geared for us locals.
