Stearns Wharf Rescue
updated: Sep 08, 2012, 2:06 PM
By the Urban Hikers
SA middle aged man who makes his home on board one of the boats anchored off shore suffered a seizure
while en route between his boat and the harbor on Saturday afternoon. At just about noon, as reported by
Roger the Scanner Guy, the man nearly drowned when he fell out of his rubber dinghy. Luckily, a 12-year
old boy and his teen aged companion (possibly his brother) saw the man in distress and jumped into the
water to aid him. Bystanders called 9-1-1 and the Harbor Patrol arrived on scene very quickly to take over
the rescue operation. The near-drowning victim was brought onto the wharf and transported by ambulance
to Cottage Hospital for treatment. At the time of the rescue the man was unconscious, but breathing.
SBFD Engines 1 and 2 were dispatched, as was SBPD for traffic control and investigation.
Who say's there aren't any real heros anymore? The two young men who jumped from the wharf and saved
the man's life are true local heros.
