Santa Maria- For the past several months, numerous farms and ranches in the Santa Maria Valley have
been the victims of fuel thefts. Approximately seventeen cases were reported, with a total approximate
value of stolen fuel exceeding $5600.00.
In June of this year, a Santa Barbara Sheriff's Deputy interrupted a burglary in progress on a local farm
during the night time hours, where fuel and other equipment were in the process of being stolen.
The subsequent investigation by members of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office Rural Crime Unit
led to the identity of four suspects from the Santa Maria and Nipomo areas. Approximately 350 gallons
of stolen fuel was located on one of the suspect's ranches in Nipomo.
The suspect who had committed the interrupted burglary was arrested. While out on bail, he allegedly
stole more fuel from another local ranch, and he was re-arrested.
The following suspects were booked into county jail for the following charges: 459 PC, Burglary \ 487
PC Grand Theft \ 496 PC, Possession of Stolen Property \ 182 PC Conspiracy \ 148.5 PC, Filing a False
Police Report \ 484 PC Petty Theft.
