Quite a bit, unless you're smart enough to switch to Android.

Go to apple, you would be surprised how often they give free replacements.

Cell Tek 8057702533. There is one location at 5727 Hollister and another at the entrance of 24 hr fitness downtown. They repair iPhones, ipods, ipads, and all cellphones at a good rate, good luck.

You're talking about small diodes and other micro components - most of the components in I-phones are proprietary and exclusive to Apple - they have minute differences that forbid generic replacements. I second 990P's suggestion to try Apple. Hope you get the help you need. They were very helpful to me when I went there.

The apple store will replace with a refurb for $150. Cheaper than any other "repair" offer and I believe they will even transfer your data for you.

I second Cell Tek - cheap and quick and reliable. Yes, you can also go to Apple if you want to pay full price for replacement parts :)

If you're in warranty they'll give you a free replacement. If not, it's going to be $150. But just try the Apple Store. There's really nothing that can be done with a broken lock button, or at least anything that doesn't exceed the cost of a new phone.

Your nearest trash can. Then run to Costco and buy an Android for 10% of the cost of an iPhony, and vow never to waste another cent on worthless Apple products.

Hope you bought insurance on it, it's important to buy it for these phones! If not you can probably buy it now and then use it in a week to get a new one. Or if it's still under manufacturer's warranty then you should be able to get a free replacement.

Maybe the OP likes their iPhone, 004. Not your place to pass judgment on what is or isn't worthless for other people, but great job trying anyways.

OP: With a new iPhone coming out in only a few weeks I'd say hold off getting yours repaired, unless it'll be free or cost you less than $100. Why spend $150 to repair your current phone when you'll be able to get a new one for $200, contract obligations notwithstanding? :)

Yeah, go Android. Unless you want a phone that actually works, that doesn't randomly crash daily, and that has a music player that knows how to properly sort Genre-->Artist-->Album-->Song. But if you like to pull the battery 3x daily, sure, go ahead and get a Droid.

Me, I'd just stay with my iPhone that "just works"

When the new iPhone comes out you can trade your old one in for an Apple gift card that you can use towards the purchase the new phone. This is the link:

Droid is a phone brand - Motorola, its a specific model of a phone manufactured by Motorola. Android is an operating system.

Blaming the Android OS on your poor choice of hardware and a carrier is like blaming the gasoline engine for the Pontiac Aztec... sure it is powered by the engine which runs on Gas but its your fault for buying that fugly thing...

If you cannot understand the difference between hardware and software than give your money to Apple and spend 5x as much for the same services...

This is similar to Windows vs. Apple - I have the same specs on my windows machine as a Macbook Pro 13 but I spent 1000 less on my machine - $1000!!!!! and yes it works perfectly, all the time while my friends Apple repair biz is booming...

My home button went bad too. Out of warranty. $150 for a refurb, or just wait and upgrade. I was very disappointed, and had to load on this button to be able to get to the home screen. PITA. But, I am looking forward to upgrading soon!!

Android, less expensive or free to repair.
Plus there is no "home" or "lock" BUTTON on the iphone, it's a touch screen/slide function. Check what kind of phone you actually have :)

A new Android phone comparable to an iphone is exactly the same price. They are both awesome but sadly both are capable of breaking.
apple are pretty good when it comes to fixing repairs in their stores or offering replacements way cheaper than buying a new phone.

If your iphone is older go on gazelle dot com today and lock in a price to trade it in, the price will drop when the new iphone is announced in a couple of weeks.

If you are using either an android or iphone older than 2 years and are paying the same phone contract you should upgrade, the device cost is minimal compared to the service charge. never go with the cheapest android or iphone paying $50 less when you have to pay $2500 over the contract is silly.

Dirt can get caught in the home button.

I took mine to Apple for the same problem and the tech merely worked the button back and forth for a long time, essentially working the dirt and grime up and out around the edges of the button and it ended up working fine again.

Actually, there is a button, @024, and my husband has the same issue. And all of the people who've said $150 or warranty exchange are correct. Apple store said the exact thing @022 said, so he can temporarily get back to the home screen with some app, until he gets a replacement phone.

It looks like this is just the phone's weak spot. And Im looking forward to taking on this problem soon, and getting rid of all these blackberry issues!

If you go to settings, then general, then accessibility and turn on your assistive touch you can put a home button on your touch screen...if you can't fork over the dough to fix or buy a new one :-)

This is why I always lock my phone with a widget (sorry, not available on apple products). This way, you are using the power button, which is the most failure prone part of most phones, half as much.

I had a piece of dust under the lens glass on my iPhone's camera lens, and i took it to the Apple Store's genius bar, and the tech took it into the back and opened it up, fixed it. And it was out of warranty!! Give them a try, they are VERY helpful and it was FREE!!!

Interesting...some hackers just released info proving that Apple has been sending unique phone ID numbers, along with the owners' names and addresses to the FBI.

Apple is watching...and it doesn't want you buying Android.

I was having this issue with my 3GS (not sure what you have), but after getting it fixed several times, I finally gave in and decided to upgrade to the 4S. I figured, when the 5 comes out (which is why I hesitated in the first place to upgrade-- waiting for the 5), keep in mind, it is bound to have bugs (just like when the 4 came out), so by the time a second version of the 5 comes out, it will be time to upgrade again (if you choose to).

So here's what ended up happening: I took my old phone to AT&T (not who your service provider is), but, they have an exchange program where you can get $75 credit if you exchange your phone for a new iPhone. (They even reset it all in front of you, so you if you do this, be sure to back up your phone before taking it in). That credit really helped me a lot. So you might want to consider this as an option. :) good luck!
