Incident Report: Shooting
updated: Sep 03, 2012, 10:46 PM

By SB CO SHERIFF

One subject is dead and another subject is in critical condition after a shooting at Orcutt Community Park in Orcutt, California this evening. The suspect was taken into custody a short time later after showing up at the hospital for an unrelated medical reason. All three individuals in the case are known to each other, and the cause of the shooting is currently under investigation.

Deputies responded to reports of shots fired at the Orcutt Community Park shortly after 6:00pm. The C.H.P. was in the immediate area and was first on scene of the incident. A 9-1-1 caller reported that a male, believed to be the suspect, left the park in a black colored jeep after firing multiple shots. Deputies arrived at the park finding a male victim dead and a female victim critically wounded. The female was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

At about 6:15pm the Santa Maria Police Department found the suspect's jeep abandoned on the Stowell Road Overpass. At about 6:30pm hospital personnel called law enforcement and said the homicide suspect showed up at the hospital for an unrelated medical issue. Deputies responded to the hospital and took the suspect into custody without incident.

The suspect is believed to be the son of the victims, but the exact cause of the shooting is still under investigation by Sheriff's investigators. The suspect will be booked into Santa Barbara County Jail.
