I would buy an elastic strap that they make for that. You put it on the upper part of your lower arm before you play to prevent that from getting worse and allow the tendon to recover.

I play 1-2 times a week and have had minor tennis elbow on/off for the past few years. Nothing Ibuprofen and a week off couldn't fix. But it got really bad after I hit a ball with the bottom of the hoop ... I felt instant sharp electric pain in the elbow and knew I had injured it badly. So I stopped playing for 5 months and focused on other sports. I started playing again 3 months ago but the pain came back quickly (Ibuprofen and icing helped with pain management but was only masking the problem). I know when something's wrong so I recently stopped playing again. I use the popular "Band-IT" strap but it only helps with mild cases. Doing strengthening exercises with a Theraband Flexbar has been helping a lot (I use the green resistance level). Highly recommended (YouTube videos show how it works). Still, my elbow doesn't feel right even while not playing. So I may go see the family doc and get a referral.

Thanks for the info! I don't play tennis and have a problem. I do have several therabands. Definitely wear the "Band-It" and rest the arm.

My husband used to use Dr. Crawford at Associated Hand Surgeons. He retired and now he is using Dr. Robert Ruth at the same practice. He is very pleased with the work he did on his elbow. They have offices in Solvang, Santa Barbara and Oxnard.

632 here again ... Associated Hand Surgeons has some nice Patient Information pages at their website. Thanks for the pointer. The "Health & Fitness" Message Board at Tennis Warehouse has tons of posts about experiences treatment for tennis elbow (inflammation on outside of elbow) and golfer's elbow (inflammation on inside of elbow). You can spend days reading other peoples' comments there. There used to be a male grocery clerk at the downtown Ralphs who used a Band-IT strap on each arm.

My tennis elbow wouldn't go away after months of trying everything. I had tennis elbow surgery from Dr. Ryu. The elbow is fine now and I'm playing tennis a few times a week. The surgery is nasty and I'd try everything else first.

So everyone's a doctor now. Some of those suggestions can be big trouble if you don't have what they had. Doctor: so what do we have here? Patient: tennis elbow. I think. Doctor: when did this injury occur? Patient: months ago. It's not getting better, I tried everything they told me to do. Doctor:"They?" Patient: "Craigslist's armchair" doctors. Doctor: oh my...

Unlike 873, I appreciate others reciting their recommendations & experiences. What I do is going to be up to me and my physician.

Dr Ryu is very good! Does not consider surgery the first choice for treatment. He will not coddle you-be prepared for a where does it hurt-how did you hurt it- and so on and do not whine. He will do his best to fix it and is very good at doing so-but no stroking your ego!
