ART Therapy
updated: Sep 03, 2012, 2:28 PM
I had a neuroma removed in March that only recently healed. Now I am
dealing with scar tissue. I know I need to massage the scar tissue to
break it up. I have heard about "ART" therapy to massage and break up
the scar tissue. This is usually done by a sports chiropractor. Does
anyone have a referral to some one for "ART" therapy?

I have plenty of scars and I have tried everything to reduce scarring on my face and areas that may make me self conscious. the rubbing therapy doesn't really do anything that you can't do by yourself. The best way to deal with scarring is to stay out of the sun, gently message it but don't overdo it, use sunscreen at all times, and use aloe vera at night. It takes a year for it to get where it most likely will be permanent, then you can have laser removal done similar to tattoo removals if you want. I am guy so it doesn't bother me as much as some women, but if it is facial you should definitely keep it covered from the sun, I even use to put on band-aids for the first few months when the UV is high. Good luck.

OP here...I am not talking about a visual scar--that doesn't bother me. It's the scar tissue deep inside that is affecting the base of my toes.

Years ago I went to Jean DeBettignes, a physical therapist in town, three months after I had exploratory knee surgery. I had found it was becoming more and more difficult to walk over those three months. Jean rubbed my knee to get at some adhesions, and after one session I had no problem with the knee ever after. Great PT. Don't ask about the surgeon who accused me of malingering and made no recommendations to help with the pain. A doc-in-the-box recommended Jean and I became a faithful client of hers. Best wishes to you on your recovery.

I may be looking at getting the same thing done. Do you have any regrets of the surgery OP ? Did you try any of the other procedures like alcohol injections ?

ART is a very specialist technique so you are right to seek out someone with the proper accreditation. I do know of one ART qualified practitioner , fairly recently arrived here in SB - in fact she has a Doctorate in PT as well as the ART certification and a bunch of others. Not sure if she has a website but google Lynn Hartell - I just did and it came up with a Linked in page and you can track her down from there. ...and, yes, she fixed me! Good luck

A doctorate in PT is not really a rarity. In fact it is now a requirement for new therapists.

OP here: No I didn't try other procedures...the pain was too great and limiting my quality of life. I certainly didn't bargain for the complication of the wound not healing and what it took to get it to close...ie wound-vac, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, dermographs--almost 6 months...If I can get the scar tissue to break up, then yes, I will be glad I did it.
