September 2, 2012 - Nice Sister (Nice to Share)

This week, we are going to have a little fun. Ed and the dedicated staff are avid users of dictation on their cell phones. In fact, as we speak, this Sunday Edhat is being dictated on the cell phone. But it takes a lot of correction and editing to make it camera ready. In fact, just now the phone came up with "love everything" instead of "editing" on our first spoken draft. Kind of funny, don't you think? And so, we are asking you to dictate what you are saying to your phone, and see what comes up. Next week, we'll share them with the crowd. Just a little something fun to do on a hot, muggy, Edhat Dog day of summer.

Last week, our State Assemblyman was seen on national news involved in a potential conflict. The news got out to Santa Barbara when Edhat linked to the story, then the cry went out from our huddled masses - Das, you got some 'splainin' to do!

Using online tools available freely to him (and all other Santa Barbarians), he posted an Op-Ed on Edhat to communicate his side of the story. Ed is pleased to see that this politician takes the new media so seriously. We hope to hear more from Das and his compatriots as the next election approaches. And after that, as well.

Statements from public figures, blow-by-blow coverage of the high-speed chases, we've got it all covered here on Edhat.

There's a lot of fun stuff too! This week we'll tell you the results of our survey on how many people are driving while talking on the cell phone. As usual, contestants guessed way too high. What would the world be like if half of the drivers were talking and driving at the same time? "Scary" is the first word that comes to our minds!

There is a lot of great reading in today's Sunday Edhat!

The Dog of the Week is Betty, a Hurricane Katrina survivor; the Cat of the Week is Greylin, who likes to snuggle. School is back in session, and our Teen Voice, Kelsey Abkin is back on the job; Nicole appreciates the little things. Billy Goodnick has a word or two about butts; Lauren shares her staycation, and Edda offers some useful advice to a bride-to-be.

---- Edhat Stuff ----------------------------------

Play our new Edhat Game: Siri Says What?

Do you have suggestions for Ed? Take our Edhat Survey and let us know what you think.

Nicole: Nicole likes dollhouses, but not in a creepy way, the normal way.

ASK EDDA: Dear Edda, I'm getting married in January, and I have a big problem. My future mother-in-law wants me to wear her wedding dress.

COUNT: For this week's contest we asked subscribers to give us a percentage of drivers who were talking on their cell phones. Click here to see the results.

GARDEN OF ED: Billy Goodnick tackles the annoying issue of cigarette butts littered around town.

NON-PROFIT OF THE WEEK: Women's Economic Ventures (WEV) is dedicated to creating an equitable and just society through economic empowerment and self-sufficiency.

Lauren: Lauren treated herself to a staycation in the Santa Ynez Valley and encountered mini horses.

CAT OF THE WEEK: Meet Greylin, the shy snuggle-bug.

DOG OF THE WEEK: Meet Betty, the dog that survived Hurricane Katrina.
