I wanted to alert folks to a scam that was attempted upon me today. I
received a phone call from a heavily accented man, sounding quite
alarmed and informing me that my computer is sending alerts to some
I'm sure he'd have been interested in either selling me some non-
existent software, or else would have tried to mine credit card info. I told
him I wouldn't be scammed and hung up.
This call was supposedly originating from New York, and had made
numerous attempts to reach me over the past few days, but I didn't
recognize the caller and didn't pick up until today, when answering an
extension without caller ID.
Some people who are unfamiliar with computers might comply with
such a call, and so I thought I'd pass along a warning.
