Wanted Felon Arrested After Long Pursuit
updated: Aug 29, 2012, 10:41 AM

Source: Santa Barbara Sheriff's Department

A Santa Barbara man was arrested late Tuesday night after leading deputies and C.H.P. Officers on a long pursuit that started in Montecito and ended in the Santa Ynez Valley.

The Pursuit was initiated after a Sheriff's Sergeant attempted to pull over a silver colored Toyota pick-up truck that was driving in Montecito without its headlights on. The suspect, Allen Rappuhn (11-22-73), proceeded to disobey traffic signs as he picked up speed leaving the Montecito area. Rappuhn then drove into Santa Barbara City continuing his disregard for the safety of others. Deputies attempted the PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) maneuver to bring the pursuit to a halt. Rappuhn was able to continue driving and got back on the 101 freeway exiting at HWY 154. The pursuit continued to HWY 154 and Armor Ranch Road where the C.H.P used a spike strip to disable the suspect's truck. Rappuhn kept driving even though three of his tires were punctured from the spike strip. The PIT maneuver was attempted again at the intersection of HWY 154 and HWY 246 without success.

The suspect turned onto the Chumash Indian Reservation and came to a stop after losing a portion of his right tire due to damage from the spike strip. Rappuhn immediately surrendered to deputies and was taken safely into custody. No one was hurt during the entire incident. Allen Rappuhn was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on felony charges of recklessly evading law enforcement without due regard for the safety of others, and outstanding San Luis Obispo felony warrants.
