‘AVOID the 12' conducted a sobriety and driver's license checkpoint on Friday, August 17th and Saturday August 18th between 8:00pm and 3:00am in the 400 block of Chapala Street in the City of Santa Barbara. This operation was one of 33 DUI enforcement operations that will be conducted throughout Santa Barbara County during the 17 Day Summer Mobilization Period which runs from Friday August 17th through Monday September 3rd. Officers from the Lompoc, Santa Barbara and UCSB Police Departments worked along side deputies from the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office to staff the sobriety checkpoint. Here are the results of the checkpoint:

The national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" crackdown is led by the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), with the California Avoid DUI Task Force Campaign combining high-visibility enforcement and heightened public awareness and impaired driving deterrence through publicity.

‘AVOID the 12' is named for the 12 Law Enforcement agencies within Santa Barbara County that work together to combat DUI driving. Additional information about the Avoid Program and operational plans from around the region can be found at www.californiaavoid.org. Statistical data on the number of DUI arrests and DUI fatal crashes will be released periodically throughout the holiday weekend. Funding for ‘AVOID the 12' comes from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration who reminds everyone to Report Drunk Driving - Call 9- 1-1!
