updated: Aug 18, 2012, 2:00 PM

By the Urban Hikers

Traffic was severely impacted on Friday afternoon about 4:30 when an SUV collided with a sedan on Foothill Road between Calle Laureles and Laurel Springs Road. According to traffic cops on scene, an SUV, driven by a middle aged woman collided into a VW sedan occupied by a young couple. Apparently the driver of the Jetta was initiating a 3-point turn, when the woman-driver of the SUV unexpectedly crossed the double yellow line and rammed the Jetta.

SBFD responded to the scene with Engine 5 and SBPD responded with several units. Paramedics also arrived to tend to the medical needs of the accident victims.

According to the traffic officer on scene the driver of the SUV also had a dog in her vehicle. The woman was transported to Cottage Hospital for evaluation and treatment of her injuries. The occupants of the VW appeared to have suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital by a family member. The dog in the SUV was picked up at the scene of the accident by a family member and appeared to doing well.

During the accident and investigation traffic was backed up for quite a distance. As a result law enforcement closed the road and diverted eastbound traffic onto San Roque Road.
