Does anyone know what was happening at or about Micheltorena & Gillespie Street last evening around 6:30? It looked like an badly injured dog was being euthanized on the side of the road by a man, as several people looked on. I was driving by.......

I just heard about this today, and it is absolutely disgusting what happened! The dog got hit by a car and was critically injured, and the owner came out and "took care" of the situation himself. I can't even mention it on here it was so bad!

i live right there. the dog on the corner gets out all the time. This is the 3rd dog they have had that has been hit and killed!!! Yesterday there dog was hit and the man came out look at the dog and start to bang the dogs head to the pavement.. It was the most horrible seine ever!!! People were shocked.. not sure if anybody said anything to him. I was in a hurry to get my grand kids inside before they knew what was happening.. My son said that earlier in the day he had witness the dog almost getting hit, he caught him and took him home. 2 hours later this happen..

Yikes! Time to report them for sure. How could the guy pound the dogs head into the pavement and kill it? I am all for putting a poor animal out of their misery when critically wounded but that would not be the way to do it. I also understand not being able to afford a huge vet bill but if you can't afford the basic cost to put down a loved pet then you shouldn't have a pet! :(

Actually, I saw an animal services vehicle heading westbound on Micheltorena today. Wonder if they paid the owner a visit.

When I first read this story, I was horrified. I made assumptions about the owner and his mindset. Afterward, I thought about the raccoon that had been hit by a car and landed in my yard.... it was screaming and mortally wounded. All I had was a shovel. It was horrible, and I cried about it for a long time after, but I knew my choice was to immediately put it out of its misery, go inside and close the door, or wait for an hour for animal control to show up. I have killed a snake that was run over, flailing on the Hwy 33 with a rock. I learned my lesson from having found a cat in my yard with its front leg ripped off, waiting for animal control and when they finally showed up, not having anything to euthanize it, but put it in their truck to drive around for who knows how long. Sometimes speed is kinder than decorum.

I don't know the owner, I don't know the situation, but I did feel inclined to share another perspective.

Report to animal services, please! You can do it confidentially, better to give a name and phone number and tell them you want your identity kept hidden. You must provide them with the address. They probably know of the dog if he "gets [got] out all the time."
I'm so very sorry for the dog! And the neighbors. and any people who live with the subhuman. Also alert Humane Society and county Animal services. If this incident is true, other agencies should know the subhuman's name so that they do not adopt to him.

Please report this to animal services..If nothing else this guy should not be allowed to have animals. I think there should be an On Call Vet for this sort of thing. Come On is there a Vet out there that would volunteer with animal services to take care of a injured animal?

COMMENT 308813 agree helpful negative off topic

Euthanasia is when a vet delivers a quick, merciful, painless death via an injection under controlled circumstances. This dog was KILLED. Whatever he did to the dog on a street corner to end it's life was cruelty--by any standards. He killed a dog on the street. Period. It is particularly outrageous when there are multiple animal hospitals within 5 minutes, including an emergency one.
He should have already been arrested!

If this was a human being, SBPD would have been all over it and I am sure good samaritans may have stepped in as well.

It is sad that people watched a dog get murdered in broad daylight and no one took action to help. What has our community come to?

I don't know like 308806 feel we don't know since wasn't there and perhaps shouldn't judge. There are times its more merciful to do it quickly this may have been one of those times. The comments about the dogs getting out regularly should be addressed though if thats the case they shouldn't have animals if they can't secure them for the pets safety and the neighbors.

To 774....Yes! When I realized what was happening I screamed out loud in the car. Then I cried all the way home. When I got home I continued crying on my husbands shoulder and couldn't even get the words out to tell him what I had just seen for about 10 minutes! When I told him what I had just seen....he was stunned as well. The images have haunted me all day. I'm sure the poor little dog was mortally injured, but I don't think the man's solution was the most humane. Horrific!

I too appreciated 806's post.

HOWEVER - animal control DOES have euthanasia drugs in their trucks.

And "euthanasia" translates broadly to "good death."

This was not a good death.

They should have taken the poor injured dog over to C.A.R.E. and asked that it be euthanized, or at least looked at. What about the driver that hit the dog?? Nobody has mentioned them, NOT that they are to blame. It's the owners fault that the dog was hit and killed. ~~~~ What kind of dog was it?

It's awful! In that situation if my dog was mortally wounded I could see doing something to help him let go but it would not be in public or so brutal! I love my dog, I would be devastated if anything happened to him and would absolutely hate myself if I let him suffer needlessly, but hearing about how this man did things makes me sick. :(

Around 6:30pm, only option would have been driving the dog to C.A.R.E. That is if it was possible to move the dog without causing more pain. If what people are saying is true, I hope this person does not take in another dog.

It doesn't sound to me like the dog was injured that bad if it took 10 minutes of slamming it's head aganist the pavement for it to die. Would someone who witnessed this please contact the Animal Police and report this guy..Are you afraid of him? Obviously not afraid enough you feel the need to share it with us..At least let them know about it.

Witnesses: PLEASE report this to animal services.

If the owner had to put the dog down they should have taken it to their own property and used the back of a shovel with a smack. It's horrible that they did what they did in front of many people. My heart goes out to you all.

I just spoke with SB Animal Services and they have not received any calls from actual witnesses to this incident (only calls from people who have read about it here). Anyway, I was told to encourage ANYONE who witnessed this to please call Animal Services at 963-1513 and they will definitely investigate it. They are just waiting to hear from someone who actually saw what happened and can ID the house, person or animal. Thanks!! (Unfortunately I did not witness this myself.)

Perhaps 779 would be willing to make a report since they "live right there". I was driving by in a car and came upon the act in progress. There was a man and a women kneeling in the street next to the dog. I did not see what house they took the dog to after it was dead. I will say that I actually heard the dog's skull crack as I drove by. This incident was completly shocking; and should be investigated or at least discussed by animal control.

080: You should definitely call Animal Control and tell them what you saw, i.e. a description of the people and maybe the house they were in front of. If people are shy about getting involved, they should know that all of this can be done confidentially. It is important though to speak up. Animal Control can't do anything about this unless they hear from some people that actually saw something take place.

FYI....called and talked to Animal Services today regarding the incident last Tuesday evening on Micheltorens Street. I told them what I saw as a witness, and a desription of the man and woman kneeling next to the injured dog. Animal Services derfinately is investigating. However, they said they do not have the address of the dog owner. If you can help please call Animal Services @ 963-1513. Don't be silent......

I was just reading about someone who tied three dogs to the railroad tracks in Cincinatti, someone here threw a puppy from the window of a moving vehicle and now this. I feel sick and don't like people very much right now. How seriously twisted do you have to be to do any of these things?

For those that reported it Thank You you never know they might have been eaten that dog. Years ago saw a Opossum get run over in Goleta. Saw a family come out of their home grab it and run back in. I'm pretty sure that was what they were up to.
