Santa Barbara Community Church is awesome if you are open to the christian perspective. Lots of great open minded people that do a good job loving each other. Good preaching too.

The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. You can practice from your own home, and his noodliness accepts members of all religious backgrounds.

The Unity Church at the corner of State and Micheltorena is a wonderful place to go. It is multi-denominational and welcomes people from all walks of life. It has a gorgeous cathedral, an amazing organ, and a labyrinth. For a new person in town who likes an open perspective this is a wonderful choice.

I guess that sarcasm reigns king on this one. Talk about a silly opened question. I have very little to add. By the comments, it has all been said!

The Unitarian Society. If there is no dogma, there are no lies!

well I guess it's safe to say OP that edhat really isn't the place to pose a serious question, unless you enjoy getting mostly juvenile responses. Good luck finding a place of worship that suits you. I would ask elsewhere... pretty sad really... I am constantly disappointed by humanity.

681 is constantly disappointed by humanity?

and i always amazed by humanity. depends on your outlook i guess.

church of the outdoors, church of the beach, etc...just as valid as the brick and mortar churches.....lots of humanity here on edhat.

Religion drags humanity down.

Simply grow up and stop with all the fairy tale nonsense.

-689 Good advice.

I second the FSM. He never even talks to boys and girls. On second thought, he never talks to anyone. Bless him.

The church at State and Micheltorena is Trinity Episcopal, not Unity.

I'd go for the Unitarian Society (1533 Santa Barbara St). Nice people, good choir, the intention to do good in society. Social action important to them. Very welcoming, not dogmatic.

Unity is a positive experience.

Santa Barbara has been overrun by Godless iconoclasts that believe the Earth was formed 4.54 Billion years ago and man and dinosaur did not co-inhabit the planet. Most residents practice voodoo or just replace religion altogether with a therapist.

I agree with MTNDRIVER, The Unitarian Church is open to all kinds of faiths. It is a wonderful community of people and thinkers. In my mind it is much more academic. People come to religion for different reasons. The ones I have trouble with are the ones with "Got Jesus" bumper stickers. Our neighbors have that. They go to church on Sunday, and that gives them an excuse to be jerks the rest of the week.

uhhh I am socially liberal but everything else conservative. That's a reall thing. The finacial outweighs the social so I vote conservative for people running for office, but I vote liberal on social props. Let me give you an example on how this could work: voted to legalize gay marriage in California and voted against higher taxes. Boom.

Serious question, 750: How do you reconcile that? By which I mean, the people who are deemed "fiscally conservative" (even though they usually aren't) typically tend to be extremely conservative socially as well. I don't know if I could have that kind of dichotomy in my life.

Watch out for calvary chapel. They're evangelicals that believe in creation and other unenlightened things.
