101 Gaviota Closure
updated: Aug 15, 2012, 10:29 AM

Source: CalTrans

###UPDATE###

The emergency roadwork on U.S. Highway 101 north of the Gaviota tunnel will result in lane closures on northbound Hwy. 101 Mondays through Thursdays from 7 am to 3 pm and from 6 am to 1 pm on Fridays for the next three weeks. One lane of northbound U.S. Highway 101 and all lanes on southbound U.S. Highway 101 are open.

Motorists should expect only minor delays during the non-commute hours. This project is expected to be completed by the end of this month. The CHP will continue to patrol the area to maintain traffic safety.

The northbound lanes of Hwy. 101 were closed and traffic redirected onto the southbound lanes last month to replace a failing drainage culvert under the highway.

These emergency repairs were necessary to prevent more serious, long-term roadway damage and to maintain a safe highway condition.

The Gaviota Roadside Rest Area is open on southbound U.S. Hwy. 101 but remains closed on northbound U.S. Hwy. 101.

The contractor for this estimated $1.5 million emergency repair is Granite Construction of Santa Barbara.

Caltrans sincerely thanks motorists for their patience and cooperation during this emergency roadwork.
