Cold Springs Tavern Taxi
updated: Aug 14, 2012, 8:56 PM

I was born and raised in Santa Barbara...41 years later I still have never "done" a Sunday at Cold Springs Tavern. Next weekend is my husband and my 7th anniv. We are thinking of going finally, but want to do it safe and line up a DD. Does any one know of a taxi/shuttle service from Goleta to and back from there? Any other tips on what to bring, etc would be appreciated too.

Looks like "Tom Ball and Kenny Sultan 1:15-4/ Sean Wiggins Lone Goat 4:30-7:30" is playing. Bummed that Alastair Greene's bad isn't playing with them this Sun. I went to high school with him.

Any taxi company would take you, but it's about 20 miles from Goleta. It would be pretty expensive. Better to find a friend to drive there with you.

There is a horrible black bus operation (Jump on the Bus) that is abusing the residential neighborhood by the Mission using it as a commercial parking lot for its beer-soaked party operations spilling out drunks who then drive across this family neighborhood at late hours.

These are reckless and irresponsible business operators and I would never use this choice to go to Cold Springs Tavern.

Boycott them until they clean up their business plan. The owners live in Mission Canyon, yet use the Mission neighborhood as their dumping ground.

The owners intentionally park their own private cars hogging parking places by the Mission so they can come back and park their hideous black bus right next to houses and the Plaza Rubio Rose Garden.

This very area Pearl Chase herself protected as a historic view corridor, now blighted by this massive hulk of a creepy bus, full of drunks.

Contact a taxi company and tell them that you'd be needing drop off at the location and a later pick up - 2 trips. See if they can give you a negotiated rate since you're reserving time slots.

Jump on the Bus is a shady operation. These are the same folks that were running the unlicensed rogue holiday lights trolley with the insanely loud train horn. There are also the same folks who were involved with the now closed Live Culture in Paseo Nuevo that ended up not paying many local vendors as their business went down the tubes. They are now using residential neighborhoods in the Mission as their commercial bus operations staging area much to the dismay of those that live there. Initially they were passing off their commercial operation as a "private bus" as they did not have the proper permits and licensing for running a booze bus selling individual fares. Avoid at all costs, hopefully the city will crack down on this rogue operation.

Cold Spring Tavern on a Sunday afternoon -- a wonderful outing; yes the bikers show up, but so do families with people of all ages. We've enjoyed seeing little kids dancing happily to Tom & Kenny's great music, while parents and grandparents watch. But do get a DD to go with you -- even one draft beer should disqualify you from driving the San Marcos Pass. And do try the Tavern's famous chili and the great tri-tip sandwiches barbecued outdoors next to the restaurant -- just the thing with a cold one, while listening to some very professional blues-guys having a great time.

How does someone who has lived here for 41 years never find themselves at the historic and very close Cold Spring Tavern?

I met another "local" who had never been to the Bowl... He was in his 30's and claimed to love music...

Another who had never been to the top of Gibraltar road...

Another who had never been to Ojai...

Do people really live in a tiny bubble here in SB? Yes, some people do...

387: One could say the very same thing about those who spill out of the Mission on Sundays - a place that was built with slave labor and the bones of the Chumash... A disgusting legacy that has somehow been whitewashed and ignored.

No one today need feel any generational guilt for what happened to the Chumash hundreds of years ago. Get over it. We don't hold young Germans accountable for what their fathers and grandfathers did.

Everyone makes their own choices and the Chumash did this to themselves. A few mission fathers could not control an independent, live off the land tribe without their willing cooperation.

Also if these Black Bus (Jump on the Bus) operation owners have cut corners in everything else they have done in town, how do you know they are not going to cut corners with your own life running this drunk bus?

Demand to see if their insurance is paid up and don't sign any liability waivers. And tell them to park their ugly black bus bus in their own Mission Canyon driveway, instead of trashing up other people's neighborhoods.

However this is rarely an option we have to provide as most of our riders are responsible drinkers, this is usually one of the reasons they take our bus in the first place.

If the ugly Black Bus owners are the same as the shady Live Culture gang, any further comments from them are worth as much as what their creditors got. Be sure and check out the past stories about Live Culture before listening to their swarmy song and dance about just trying to put a business together, while they live in Mission Canyon .....

Take that trashy bus and park it where it belongs because it does not belong parked in a residential neighborhood, protected by Pearl Chase herself. These are scammers who will try and pull out every guilt card they can muster. Do your homework on these folks and then see what they try to get away with this time..

Sunday Trips to Cold Spring Tavern on The School Bus…
This thread was brought to our attention by a supporter/patron of our business, “JumpOn TheSchoolBus.” It is hard to bite our lip when reading the negative comments (from one poster in particular who seems to write a book on us often as he/she can). This posters continued slander and defamation has not gone unnoticed and will be addressed accordingly in the future if it persists. He/she seems to copy/paste the same memo every time. We invite you to make yourself known and stop hiding behind your edhat alias. We would be delighted to give you the facts in person and offer you a free ride so you can see for yourself what a great service we provide.

To those of you who have never heard of, or ridden with us, we invite you to learn the fair and honest truth about our FUN and SAFE alternative transportation services. We are born and raised SB locals and have always operated within the laws and continue to run a legal, safe, licensed, permitted and fully insured operation. We are here to stay and will continue to serve our happy local repeat business patrons as well as new visitors. It is within our and our patron’s rights to enjoy the public park and public parking at the Mission Rose Garden prior and post to our Cold Spring Trips and any other event we book.
Our occasional use of the park and parking near the Mission pales in comparison to the numerous tour busses and swarms of tourists that bombard the Mission area on a daily basis. The good people and residents of the Mission area knew full well that they were purchasing homes in front of and near one of the most popular stops in Santa Barbara. We have addressed matters with the residents of the Mission area directly with the Upper East Side Association and continue to do the best we can to limit any negative impact in the area.

As for the original poster of this thread we would like to extend an invitation for you and your husband to JumpOnTheSchoolBus with 2 free bus passes as an anniversary gift. Lastly, back to the “boycotter” (who is suspicious and probably a jealous competitor) get your facts straight before you feel so freely to defame and slander a legitimate business you actually know nothing about. Go to our web... [ more ]

The Mission neighbors have long had tourist activities going on in the heart of their neighborhood and lived around this obvious attraction. So what is this new black bus company (Jump on the Bus) doing that is different?

They use the Mission neighborhood public streets as their private commercial storage yard. That is the issue which the owner tries to cleverly evade in her response full of attack, blame, evasions and twisting of the truth.

The Jump on the Bus outfit instead stores the bus over-night and during the day on this areas residential streets, when not in use.

The black bus reached no accommodations with the neighbors, nor do they show any efforts to eliminate the negative effects using this residential neighborhood for their own selfish commercial business purposes.

Sierra and Darin went out of their way to make me feel welcome and introduced me to everyone as I moved here not knowing a soul. Two of the nicest people I have ever met and do everything they can to make sure their customers have an enjoyable experience. I highly recommend you use them to take this trip. Everyone had a great time and ZERO people stumbled off the bus drunk after as the hate posters would like you to think. Was nice of them to post and show they cared nothing about helping you and were only posting for hate motivations right?? I'm going again this weekend for another great trip!! See you there. No one is protesting the ugly black bus business. If people want to use this beat up party bus, fine.

The protest against this ugly black bus operation is using residential streets as their private overnight, long-term, 38 foot, 10 ton commercial vehicle storage yard.

Stick to the point. There is a law on the books that prevents this misuse - no parking of any bus for more than two hours which is currently tied up in the courts.

The ugly black bus owners know about this law that is clearly set out in Santa Barbara Municipal Code 10.44.200 et seq and they know they are intentionally exploiting its current state of legal limbo. The police are well aware of this operation and have been for a very long time.

I have never used the bus, likely never will, and have no opinion on its operation. However, a fan/ "defender" who spouts angry, pseudo-Randian "entrepreneurship" philosophy will probably not be winning this business any support. And, please, for the love of god, eliminate the use of "hater(s) from any and all future screeds. Why does any disagreement in virtually any arena now have to include accusations of hate? (Even worse, IMO, is someone being described as "hating on" something/someone else, all part of the continuing debasement of the English language, I guess, and part of another topic perhaps.)

I usually keep quite but I have to speak up. I used this bus for my Birthday party 5 months ago. I was told that the owners don't have a business license, they do. I was told it didn't have insurance, it does. There was a rumor that it isn't safe... it is! I was shown documentation on all of these issues.

I am on the "other" side of 50... not a drunken teenager by any means. We went to a park and had a picnic, went on a hike. The Bus took us to Los Olivos and we all enjoyed some wine tasting, it was a great day! The bus was a terrific value!!

I have been on the bus a couple of times since. Once back up to Los Olivos, the other time to Cold Springs Tavern. Each time there were 10-20 people on the bus. It was by no means the drunken party bus that other posters are describing.

I find it funny that EdHat has on the bottom of the page as I type this "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

Numerous books are out there describing the current and upcoming Me Generation, the Age of Narcissism and the Entitlement culture.

These best explain the dialogue going on and the "hating on" of anything other than one's own narrow point and unformed of view. This is the youth we have inherited from the past decades of permissive education where every child is an honor student and lives the bubble of their own sense of self-aggrandizement.

The lack of focus in their arguments beyond their own noses-- I want it and I want it now and I don't care what anyone else thinks-- is the act of the young and unseasoned.

We created this selfish and self-absorbed generation. Now we must live with what we created. They will be with us for a long, long time.
