Sign at Old Burger King
updated: Aug 14, 2012, 8:48 PM

By Edhat Subscriber

Has anyone seen the new sign at the old Burger King location, on upper state? They put a banner now, that says Chick-Fil-A...and with it, in black letters it reads: "We don't discriminate, we just support it" Or something like that?! I was driving, and didn't get a chance to snap a photo! If you can, submit it so we can see it! I am appalled...I am wondering however, if it's just vandalism! I hope it is just vandalism!

Honestly, the statements and the fuss around Chick-fil-A is so incredibly offensive, I will choose to avoid this place. I contend it was done for publicity and media attention. That's no way to run a business, particularly a fast-food, unhealthy food company. At least they'll be closed on Sundays.

Yes, saw the sign yesterday. It's not there now. Santa Barbara ARB was wrong in trying to block the opening of Chickafil for political reasons and were instructed by the City of SB to move forward with project. Looking forward to the opening!

I will add that anyone who uses the made-up word "sheeple" is almost always referring to themselves, and has no idea what they are talking about in honest debate.

What's the big deal? It's just another greasy fast food trough for the masses. If ownership chooses to publicize their bigotry that's their business, whether it's to profess their "Christian morality" or to stir up political controversy for the free publicity it can garner. It's still junk food and bad business.

COMMENT 308395 agree helpful negative off topic

Christian morality does not sit on judgment of people, God does. It is the personal opinion of the CEO of the corp that holds Chik-a-fil-a or whatever the name is, and if his beliefs (very wrong in the Christian life) extend to his public hiring system, then that is an issue for the courts, it does not reflect Christianity. He does not represent Christianity anymore than Madonna wearing crosses all over herself at her concerts. The name sounds awful, I will miss Burger King.

Those on the left have increasingly resorted to unethical, illegal and immoral behaviors which in their mind they can rationalize because they think they are "right". This "ends justifies the means" mentality has destroyed the remnants of the classic democratic party and is the mantra of the new left or so called "progressives". Whining, name calling, lies, distortions, demonstrations (occupations) vandalism, abuse of official powers, playing the race card, sympathy card or a whole deck of other "cards", all because they think they are "right" and therefore "the ends justifies the means". The intolerance of a party or political body that used to claim inclusion and tolerance is astounding, and perhaps a sad sign of the times!

Of course I think the allegedly "christian" interpretation of the chicken man is loathesome, but destruction of property is NOT the answer.

A word to those who want to spray paint, set fire to, or otherwise harm the chicken man's property: CUT IT OUT!!

Don't you realize that by committing acts of vandalism you are playing right into the chicken man's hands? You are setting him and his evil company up as VICTIMS. This then gains him sympathy. Is this really what you want?

There's nothing we can do to keep this "christian" and his greasy chicken out of Santa Barbara. This IS a free country. I'm sure that as the time approaches for chicken man's franchise to open, there will be protests and maybe even a picket sign or two. This will be the time and place to vent your frustration. But please do NOT do anything destructive. This just sets the chicken man up to be a martyr. Which I'm sure is something he would love. Let's not give him the satisfaction.

I also do not like controversy that polarizes people. We need more love and understanding of diversity or we'll end up in a civil war! Do they really think if they, like their TV heroes, interrupt and raise their voices, it will make me change my opinions? We are not whining. We are reiterating our values and our patriotism. Does America really want to be known as the country of the 1% - the country that abandoned its old, its poor, its students? That is the "financial budget package" that Mr. Ryan espouses. Mitt, as usual, doesn't know what financial plan he wants. First he says he picked Ryan for that reason; a day or two later, he says he'll have his OWN financial plan.....not Ryan's. America is tired of demanding union employees and their violence tinged demonstrations along and are ready to throw out with the union-friendly legislator cronies who have sold out America's future.

The biggest political conversion going on is young people supporting Romney-Ryan who still stands for the American dream of hard work, thrift, freedom and accountability.

There is no fast food place that is okay for me anymore. It's just how it is. This is a fast food place (who apparently couldn't zip it about it's political stance on something that is none of it's business) - they can front all they want to about how they are a healthy alternative but they are not. It's all I need to know. They will be just another place that is not on my horizon anymore.

Who would have guessed this backlash voice of protest against the ABR misguided action is now registered as also part of the fabric of this town. A town where progressives had hijacked the poltiical agenda for so long, many forgot there were always needs to be at least two sides to every issue.

Bravo to all those who saw the wider issues in this pouty ABR stunt of political correctness. Far deeper rights were at stake and they came forth loud and clear: First Amendment Rights; Notice and Due Process Rights; Equal Protection under the Law right.

In fact, we just witnessed a constitutional clash over a chicken sandwich and we are becoming a healthier city because of this remarkable dialogue.

There are three problems here:

1. Corporate food served with no regard for health and nutrition. Not just the case at hand, but all of the fast food outlets serving identical menus across the land. America has become a nation of the obese, and corporate feeding bears some responsibility

2. The in-your-face bigotry of Chik-Fil-A leadership.

Number three has been addressed. The other two remain.

You do understand that there are people out there who do not support gay marriage right? Are they wrong? Do they not have the right to their beliefs? There was a time, not too long ago, when people kept their beliefs to themselves. It was borderline rude to ask someone what their religious or political beliefs were. It was more of a private thing. I miss those times.

882: Of course they have a right to their beliefs. But when that directly affects other peoples' rights, they've overstepped their bounds. It's that simple. Believe whatever you want. Just don't force legislation that keeps an entire group of people from getting married just because you don't like it. There are myriad things I find wrong with evangelical christians, but I don't actively campaign against them. Although the way they're comporting themselves these days maybe I will.

Corporations feed a huge number of people every day. Their customers are attracted by the inexpensive food which is prepared for them. You can't beat the price and convenience, and the taste is rewarding.

It is sourced from the cheapest suppliers, who use industrial methods to bring down the costs (In the U.S., four companies produce 81 percent of cows, 73 percent of sheep, 60 percent of pigs, and 50 percent of chickens). Their methods degrade the environment, sometimes spread infectious disease, and deprive the animals of their quality of life. The end product is full of empty calories.

Two-thirds of American adults are overweight or obese.

But I from the other side, I don't want to support all those social programs: so don't force me to pay higher taxes so they can go to programs I don't like or agree with.
