Fire out on Stearns Wharf

A fire is reported out on Stearns Wharf outside the Harbor restraunt. Engine 6,
and Harbor Patrol responded with the boat.

It doesn't sound entirly out they are applying water underneath the warf where the fire was maybe it's smoldering..

Harbor Patrol boat 3 is on the West Side of the warf shooting water on the spot where the fire was. Engine 6 is on the warf.

They really have to water down the warf when there is a fire. Fires on the warf in the past traveled fast acouple times destroying the pier..

Boat 3 is cleared by Engine 6. Engine 6 in service Fire is entirly out.

Glad this fire is out, last thing we need is a repeat of the 1998 Wharf fire that took out over 400 ft of it.

I remember I had just moved here the fire moved so quickly 2 guys ran and jumped off the warf, swimming back in..

In 1998 they had a deluge fire fighting system on the Wharf that didn't work as expected. Since then HP protocols have become much more pro-active in protecting Waterfront assets and not so risk averse.

Harbor Patrol has always actively responded to wharf fires; the Fire Department too. Fire can travel under the deck and be tough to put out.

I believe after the 1998 fire they decided not to continue using creosote to coat the pilings. At least I remember discussion of that at the time.
