Dog Groomer
updated: Aug 10, 2012, 3:40 PM

I need a recommendation of a dog groomer in the Santa Barbara area that has expertise with Parson/Jack Russell terriers. My 8 month old puppy has the longest, curliest hair I've ever seen on a Jack Russell. I'm inexperienced with this type of coat on this breed so don't know what type of hair cut (if any) is appropriate. Need a groomer with knowledge. Any suggestions?

Go see Barb at A-1 Laundro-mutt! Her salon is in the back of the Sensational Pets store on State St. She's great and has reasonable prices. 805) 450-9870

Sue at Little Dog House, hands down. Best terrier 'do-er in town.

Most of the time, JRTs or Parson Russell Terriers don't really need grooming, but sometimes if it's unruly, you can get them strategically groomed. Sue would know what to do, though.

I use a mobile groomer. Aleta's Pampered Pooch. 805-705-6169. My dogs are happier to be groomed at home and I have 3 different breeds so she knows her stuff. I had a JRT and grooming was almost non-existent (except for the middle of the night baths for being skunked). Aleta can certainly trim or thin hair to your liking.

Hmm, I took my girl to Sue the other month. Unless she's left in the past three weeks, I dunno what to say.

Took my dog (mostly Australian Shephard) to the Little Dog House in Old Town Goleta, for the first time for her bath and grooming, based on a recommendation from a very knowledgeable "dog person". She and her crew did a great job and in coming and going there, I noticed a number of Terriers and Poodles being groomed. I do not know what special needs a Jack Russel Terrier has but I would give her and the Little Dog House crew a try.

I have two Parson JRT's. Both with long hair, I brush and bath them myself with just a towel dry. I only take them to the vet to have their nails trimmed.

Well the parson jack russell needs a special de-ionized shampoo and the curls on the paws need to be treated with a special humidifier to keep the nails sparkling, and don't forget that the undercarriage and stomach is sensitive so pre-treat that area with baking soda before direct contact with even the mildest dog shampoo - ..... hey get over it - wash him yourself in the bathtub or shower - why do you need a groomer for a short haired dog like a jack russell? what a ridiculous exchange.... just kidding - I know you love your dog - but this stuff can be done on your own - I hate groomers - dogs get terrified - weird environment

I was a good groomer, came to your house, hooked up to your warm water, alas I no longer have the business, and all my Montecito clients have sold their custom homes and moved.
