Canoe Accident
updated: Aug 10, 2012, 9:37 AM

By Dan Seibert

Sometimes people ask if I'm afraid of sharks when we are out on the water. No, I have a bigger fear of getting hit when we trailer the canoes down the 405. Last Saturday we were in Dana Point for outrigger races. Everything was great until on the way home we got hit in a four car accident. Right next to Nordstrom's near Marina Del Rey. A car on our right hit the K rail and spun into the trailer. We spun and got hit on the drivers door, the truck then spun 180 degrees and skidded to a stop. Never thought I would be skidding backwards down the 405. The good news is no one was hurt. Bad news is the truck and trailer are totaled. One canoe has damage, but we think it can be fixed.

Big thanks to Specialty Crane for going down to Inglewood to retrieve the trailer and canoes. And this morning I read about a large great white shark being sighted off of Venice Beach. But I still fear the 405.
