Library Parking

What's up with the Central Library staff parking in the little plaza between the Art Museum and the library?
It is really a shame that one of the really pretty public spaces has to be used as a parking lot, especially
considering that city owned parking is available right there.

I know for a fact that city employees (at least librarians) have to pay to use that "city owned parking lot right there." There's a lot staff uses a few blocks away that requires an all-too-rarely granted pass to use (the one near Wine Hound). Also, IIRC -- the space or spaces in "the little plaza" are labeled "director" or something, so probably a perk for the top dog. Besides, in my opinion, the parking in that area is about the least bothersome thing when it comes to eyesores and questionable things around the library.

I agree with 422....I'd rather know "whats up" with the semi-conscious, sketchy individuals who stake out their spot on the library lawn and prevent downtown workers from enjoying lunch there...

What's more of an issue and eyesore is the vagrants parking all over the Central Library lawn.

These are what are politely termed, "First World Problems", not PWOD.

They should make it a petting zoo.

That little lot is also indispensible for loading and unloading materials for the library.

That area is used for deliveries and maintenance for both the library and the art museum. Hundreds of library items are received and sent daily with loading and unloading going on there. Most of the cars you see there are delivery trucks or city cars. Most often they are gone within a few minutes. Regular library and museum employees would be ticketed or towed if they park in that area. Library employees parking in city public lots pay the regular fees.

Haven't you ever attended a function put on by the Library (usually a children's book festival kind of thing) or by the Art Museum in that plaza? 1st Thursday a couple of months ago had the place full with their special performances, and sometimes there are other public events there. It is, as has been pointed out, also the area used for deliveries and such by both institutions. Of course on this little soapbox the discussion always reverts directly to the vagrants in front of the library. Why do you bother complaining to this tiny audience of professional critics? Figure out who has the power to change things, and talk to them or write to them about the problem. Tell them what you want, and find out what you can do to make a difference.
