The emergency roadwork on U.S. Highway 101 north of the Gaviota tunnel will
result in lane closures this week on northbound Hwy. 101 Monday through Thursday
from 7 am to 3 pm and from 6 am to 1 pm on Friday.
Motorists headed on southbound U.S. Highway 101 will encounter a lane closure
for one-day only on Tuesday, Aug. 7 beginning at 9 am for striping.
Motorists should expect only minor delays during the non-commute hours. All
work is expected to be completed in mid-August.
The CHP will continue to patrol the area to maintain traffic safety.
The northbound lanes of Hwy. 101 were closed and traffic redirected onto the
southbound lanes last month to replace a failing drainage culvert under the
highway. These emergency repairs were necessary to prevent more serious, long-
term roadway damage and to maintain a safe highway condition.
The Gaviota Roadside Rest Area is open on southbound U.S. Hwy. 101 but remains
closed on northbound U.S. Hwy. 101.
The contractor for this estimated $1.5 million emergency repair is Granite
Construction of Santa Barbara.
