Structure Fire Training
updated: Aug 06, 2012, 2:51 PM

Source: City of Santa Barbara

The Santa Barbara City Fire Department is currently conducting structure fire training at a commercial building at 1722 State Street. The training commenced this morning and will continue throughout the week.

Firefighters are simulating an interior structure fire with a "victim" trapped. Firefighters are stretching hoselines, conducting search and rescue operations along with victim removal. Firefighters are also conducting rooftop ventilation exercises. This valuable training assists firefighters with keeping current on numerous skills and tactics while exposing them to an unknown area with fire- like conditions.

It is very rare for us to have the chance to train in a large commercial structure in downtown Santa Barbara, it allows us to encounter and deal with the problems we would encounter in a real emergency.

The training is scheduled to continue all week from approximately 9am to 5pm, concluding Friday afternoon.

The building is scheduled for later demolition. The Fire Department would like to thank the City, 1722 State Street Investors, LLC, Hochhauser Blatter Architecture and Planning and Dr. Howard Gross.
