Lobsters on More Mesa
updated: Aug 03, 2012, 4:24 PM

There are dozens of lobsters lying dead on the beach below the cliffs between the outlet of the estuary surrounding the airport and More Mesa beach west of Hope Ranch. As the tails are intact, this doesn't appear to be the work of poachers. And it wasn't characteristic of past demonic acid events.

This is the first time in my eight year residency in More Mesa Shores that I have witnessed anything like this. While its cause is unclear, it appears possible it is the result of petroleum pollution, as this is also the first time I've had to remove tar from my shoes after walking on the beach.
