Owl vs Hawk
updated: Aug 03, 2012, 12:07 PM

By Julia Di Sieno, Animal Rescue Team

Yesterday our rescue hotline received a call about an injured red tail hawk VS. a barn owl. The reporting party witnessed a mid flight fight above their ranch property in Buellton. The two raptors became entangled then crashed onto the roof. Soon after both birds came crashing down onto the back patio area, hitting concrete. The barn owl lost the fight, while the red tail hawk sustained an injured left wing . Our team Vet took an x-ray and we are happy to report that x-rays are negative. We hope the open wound heels over the weekend, so the red tail can be released back to the original location.

As the owl is active by night and the hawk by day, the red tail could certainly kill a barn owl if the chance arose as what took place here.
