August 3, 2012 - Peaceful Planet

Mike Shimer's photograph of the full moon is the picture of the day, or perhaps we should say, night.

From moonphases.info: Did you know that "the U.S. is party to the Outer Space Treaty, which places the Moon under the same jurisdiction as international waters? This treaty also restricts use of the Moon to peaceful purposes, explicitly banning weapons of mass destruction (including nuclear weapons) and military installations of any kind."
Goodness, why can't we enforce these lofty principles on the planet we actually live on?
