At about 11:45 am on Thursday a brush fire was reported adjacent to the railroad tracks near Eucapyptus Rd. Roger the Scanner Guy heard the call and reported it.
A full fire response was initiated in an effort to keep the blaze from spreading. First on scene was the Montecito Fire Department, Engine 91, and later the brush truck arrived. SBFD crews were also summoned, but ultimately firefighters found a small smoldering "kitchen" fire. This was apparently the result of a person or persons making their home at a homeless encampment above the location of the fire, near Sea Meadow.
The remains of the fire were easily and quickly knocked down with water and...ahem..whatever other means available to the responding firefighters. As firefighters were on scene, a freight train rolled through, making the work of firefighters that much more dangerous and interesting.
Luckily this fire was minimal and was quickly extinguished.
