The Redwood section at the Botanic Garden. Many moons ago, my husband and I had our engagement photos taken there.

There are some lovely spots in the Ellwood Mesa overlooking the ocean. I found roses there once (not for me...I wish)! Can't wait to hear the smart aleck comments from Edhatters...

Butterfly beach at sunset and then dinner at the Bella Vista in the Biltmore afterwards....that is if everything turns out the way you plan. Good luck!

The tower at the courthouse (as long as no one is scared of heights), The zoo (sounds lame but there are some really beautiful spots), Alice Keck Park is also romantic when no one is there. Anything thoughtful to the person or a specific memory, like first kiss or date.

Make it personal. If you like hiking, for example, inspiration point is a good choice. Or in front of the art museum for the art enthusiast. So many beautiful, timeless, and romantic places in town, pick one to be a part of your story.

I took two young couples to the bluff just west of Goleta Beach for some pre-nuptial pictures. It was easy to pose the shots there to look natural.

It's not very romantic to ask for advice about romance. If you know them enough to profess love, you should know the right place for you as a couple. Sheesh.

Botanic Garden, Ellwood Mesa, Alice Keck, I agree. Also, secret steps on way up to Riviera Theatre (find at top of Pedregosa) halfway up is a little bench, quite private. Franceschi Park on Mission Ridge, Hilda Ray Park on Kenwood on Mesa, both have amazing views and few people.

In front of the Santa Barbara Mission steps could be very romantic. :) Or anywhere on the beach or at a *safe* location on the bluffs when the sun is setting. Maybe on Goleta or Santa Barbara pier. Or on a boat ride. If you want there to be a crowd of people to witness and cheer, a nice restaurant is cool. Do the whole down-on-one-knee thing and an engagement ring. :) However, that could also be very embarrassing depending upon the answer. And it might put too much pressure on your partner. Some people need to think about it before they respond. Really depends upon how romantic you want it to be, and how much you are willing to risk embarrassment. And if you want an easy "escape route" if the answer is a flat out "no" vs. a "yes" or an "I need time to think".

After 11 years of officiating for local weddings, I hear that some people take a little vacation and wait for just the right moment, which is usually the moment in which it feels right to you, and you are alone and uninterrupted. A sunset is nice, if it is quiet and serene enough. You need to plan a few activities so that there are enough options, should one or two of the moments not feel right. A sentimental spot to the couple, or any quiet beautiful and romantic spot will do...especially if it is at sunset. All that said, it matters not where you propose because any place will be perfect for you! Best of luck!

I think it depends on the person being proposed to. I would have liked a very public and fun proposal (didn't get it), but some are more uptight about that sort of thing and need a less public setting. Depending on what your beloved's personality is, you should go that direction. Does she like crowds? then go to the pier and invite everyone you know to be there and suprise her with a rose and a proposal. No crowds? Go to a quiet park or hike location "alone" and profess your love. Best of luck to you! p.s. I still married him. What can I say "I love the guy"!

My husband proposed to me at the top of La Cumbre Peak. Its the highest point in SB (at 3,995 ft), you can drive or hike to it, there is a nice bench, and it has an AMAZING view. Go where your heart tells you is right. <3

There was an overlook (I don't know if it is still there since the road was modified) between two wind shaped cypress trees just above butterfly beach on the bluff where Channel drive used to make the sharp past the cemetary. Channel Drive now dead ends. There was a bench there and a beautiful view. Check it out.

there's a drainage ditch up from El Capitan that has a lot of gross wet hubris. The surfers call it Shit Pipes. It's part of the soon to be exclusive beach that is in process of 5 mansions to be built.
