The Alma Rose Winery is going out of business? That's a shame, I love their wines. Does anyone know if
they are selling their inventory or looking for a buyer? I loved that scene in Sideways where they stopped
there.

Bankruptcy doesn't necessarily mean "going out of business". They'll write off a lot of their debts, some creditors will get screwed, but they'll be back. Can't keep a good winemaker down.

They are NOT out of business. Winery tasting room still open and they're making wine. This is a financial maneuver and is designed to keep them in business. Hope it works.

It's regular practice in the wine industry and is becoming more common around here. The creditors who will get stiffed are usually vineyard management companies, winery related services, glass suppliers, equipment suppliers, and grape growers whom sell their fruit. I feel bad for all the others that this will affect. I'm also sad for The Sanfords as they are good people and this has got to be hard for them.

Thanks 303772! The Sanford's are personal friends and you are correct! They are NOT going out of business. Just a maneuver to give them some breathing room. The main creditors are a former business manager and their grape supplier.

Can't be good business to stiff your grape supplier if you're a vintner. It's a shame to hear about the ongoing difficulties they're having.

Chapter 11 is reorganization. As far as I know it does not "stiff" anyone. It just slows things down and sets in place a bankruptcy court approved plan pay off debt and keep operating the business. Chapter 7 erases debt - Chapter 13 erases some debt.

Maybe I'm naive. Doesn't this mean they are not going to pay people what they have promised?

The Sanfords are outstanding members of the community, very generous with non-profits. Let's not throw insults around about "stiffing" people. They are about the last people in the community who would be doing that.

All of you should just go buy lots of their wine, stock up, as that will give them necessary cash.
