Might Edhat readers have some fun analogies?

"How is Santa Barbara like a pinata?"

Completely different on the inside, with lots of fun surprises. When we moved here "temporarily," we had no idea how many things are -always- going on. There are more interesting things to do and see than there are hours in the day.

It's taking a beating year after year, tattered, with it's inside's falling out.

You've probably got to go to the Public Works Dept. and get a permit before you can even ask such a question.

Our insides are being turned out by planes taking pictures and posting them on the internet!

People try to knock it, but they have blinders on.

It's festive, colorful, and full of good stuff.

Absolutely beautiful on the outside, filled with many fun and surprising things, and for the most part structurally sound, but just like anything else, if you keep whacking at it, it will self destruct.

Expensive. (piñata cost...cost to fill up with food...cost of stick to hit it with.). Then it's useless.

Like piñatas, everything is trash to at least one Edhat commenter.

all the guests came to the party and beat the stuffing out of it. Now it isn't anything but a mess of artifical sweetner.

It takes a little effort to get to the goodies inside. And you have to have to be armed and ready to beat the crap out of something to achieve your goal. But it's a BEAUTIFUL, WONDERFUL, MAGICAL city.

One guy does all the work as all the onlookers take most of the proceeds.

553 I think you've got that backwards as a comparison to SB.

A pinata is gorgeous on the outside and sweet on the inside. This could be said for some Santa Barbara folks. Home town, I know it's only some folks and they can't afford the pinata of Santa Barbara, it must be that which keeps them sweet.

One is a fun-filled, children-friendly, family-oriented event. The other is Fiesta.

All pretty on the outside, but once inside you see the decay that occurs when you taste the sweetness.

a situation where ordinary, high density occupants cause overcrowding in a desirable setting who hope to maintain their arrangements and not be broken by external factors that strike out against them. :)
