Traffic on the 101 is at a complete halt in Ventura by the 33. Does anyone have any information on the
fire?
UPDATE: Traffic starts on the 101 southbound lanes in Carpinteria.

It was bumper to bumper from the Riverbed all the way to the S-curve. People were out of their cars and walking around.

Yup. Just got home from down south. One lane was open past the fire. 25 miles of backup. Yuck. People are doing some pretty stupid stuff on the shoulders of the highway too. It's going to take hours to clear up.

We drove north past this fire at 4:40 pm, about an hour after it started. Flames we jumping up pretty high. Really glad the NB lanes were open, but they were slowed incredibly by all the gawkers taking photos with their cell phones (thanks). At that time the backup was only 7 miles, but I knew it would eventually back up solidly to SB...which it did. Ugh.
