101 Rollover

One very lucky family managed to escape serious injury in a rollover near the 101 Sunday
afternoon at just
about 12:30 pm. As reported by Roger the Scanner Guy, woman and her two young children were traveling on the 101
northbound in a
Toyota Camry when the woman lost control of her car. The vehicle exited the freeway, rolling between a sign and
landscaping, coming to
rest on its roof just short of the 101 onramp at Castillo and Haley Streets. Fortunately no other vehicles or
pedestrians were involved
in the accident. Although all thee occupants of the car were transported to the hospital, it appears that the injuries
to the children
were minor because they were both secured properly in their car seats. The mother may have suffered a neck injury,
however she was
walking and conversing with paramedics at the accident scene.
SBFD responded to the scene with Engine 1 and a Battalion Chief. California Highway Patrol and
SBPD also
responded. Paramedics also arrived to tend to the medical needs of the accident victims. The SB Fire Department gave
the children
teddy bears as part of their Care Bear program. The bears are donated to the fire department by the Jr. League of Santa
Barbara, and
other local organizations. The bears provided comfort to the two young accident victims today, who responded very
positively to
receiving them.
This is a good reminder for anyone transporting children of the benefits of having little ones
properly
strapped into car seats which are properly installed in the vehicle. This accident could have been a horrible tragedy,
but luckily
ended with what appears to be scratches and bumps to the small children and mild to moderate injuries to the mother.
