UFO Sighting?

UFO sighted over N.Goleta today @1:30-1:45pm, hovered back and forth --silver disk with red flashing lights around top, made no sound whatsoever . then just disappeared... did anyone else see this???

something other than wild conjecture and an active imagination would help validate this and every other UFO story in human history....until then i'll have to second 600P's comment. i'm guessing the UFO was left a "chem-trail" behind it too?

While I totally agree that the likelyhood of beings from another planet/solar system/galaxy is very high, I also know that many people have made RC craft to purposely look like a flying saucer (search RC UFO flying saucer on YouTube). That being said, any unidentified object that is flying can technically be called a UFO.

As a scientist, one only needs to complete the Drake equation to determine how rare life is -- and unless one can travel infinitely faster than the speed of light, the odds of another planet's beings visiting it infinitesimally small. And if they did, do you think they would stop by Goleta and then after traveling billions of miles simply return home?

Don't Tell Me *this morning.* (Witty) Economist Paul Krugman, professor at Princeton (Nobel Prize winner) and Op-Ed columnist for The New York Times talked about his solution for saving the economy = *stage a fake alien invasion.* The country would need to solve that be being prepared: we would have to improve our infrastructure and educate our kids. Just because it's called a UFO doesn't mean the op thinks it's from another planet. It could be a military drone or weather related equipment. There are many objects in the sky that we may not be able to identify. I think this is a very legitimate question. Maybe someone has the real answer and maybe there were others who saw it. If people want to believe in visitors from another planet it's OK too, just adds another dimension to your life other than work and politics. No harm done:-)

The way to be taken seriously is to take a picture of the UFO because seeing is believing and photos don't lie, uhhhh, that used to be so. Anyway, asking if anyone saw an unidentified flying object without it being pictured so as to be able to be identified is rather like asking if anyone saw the flower by Cathedral Oaks and it is liable to get all sorts of responses, as it did.

It's good to hear someone willing to admit that they've seen an Unidentified Flying Object. I am interviewed in a documentary in which I report seeing several flying objects along with about four other people. After a year of researching, I discovered what it was and it became "Identified" and of this earth. I was friends with several scientists during those years and all of them were OPEN minded about the possibility of life elsewhere in the Universe (which is now thought to be finite, not infinite). I hope that for the sake of all life on this tiny rock, WE can remain OPEN-minded, and not be too shocked if and when there is an official response to all the probes and signals we have been sending out there. I, for one, think it a bad idea to advertise our presence, since we don't seem to be able to come together on the most urgent issues. They "could" decide to take care of us, as we are not taking care of each other.

Yes, reality, where all is changing, much is unknowable, we are mortal and will die.at most we have high probablities and not truths,.and yet we know what it is to "based in reality". What is wrong with high probabilities? It's dangerous and that's why the Feds closed down the dispensaries. Yes folks, clearly that this earth holds the only and highest form of life. Clearly it us, IMHO and we should stop speculating about our specialness and uniqueness and all knowingness. To stop speculating is then to be "reality based", logically. Just imagine if someone would have told that to Al Gore...He would have never invented the internet and we wouldn't have read about the posters various UFO experiences!!! Stop being such a Squidward...It's Imagination day!

There's other life in the universe, but none of it has visited here. The universe isn't infinite, but it is vast ... but even our nearest neighbors are very far away and the physical limits to speed of travel are very real. Some people's minds just aren't open to evidence, fact, and knowledge, or the possibility that they are wrong. Instead, they talk of things they don't understand like dimensions. It's one thing to imagine, and another thing to rudely insist that anyone who does not believe in your fantasy has a closed mind.

I want so much to see a UFO. I've wished that all my life. Enough experienced pilots have reported them to make it a mystery that would be great to solve. But where is even one good photo after tens of thousands of sightings? If people can photograph lightning, why can't they get a clear picture of a UFO that's in sight for extended periods of time?

@ 705 I would implore you to do some research on ancient "alien" visitations, similarities in these cultures, etc... Just take a peak before you accuse somebody of having just a fantasy. And even then, this may have nothing to do with aliens at all. Just because somebody mentions a "UFO" shouldn't mean that we immediately conjure up images of little green men flying around. There is much we do not know still and are still discovering. Science was practically condemned by religion until just a few hundred years ago. We are nothing but babies when it comes to discovering things. Let's not put the cap on our discovery. There will always be new theories and new ideas that may trump what we believe to be certain... and that is why we press forward.

Invitation to the Alien Spacecraft!!!! We got K-Mart!! Costco!! Stop in and stock up on your way to the Orion!! We have secluded beaches, some are clothing optional, patrolled by off-duty SB police officers! If your spacecraft gets a parking ticket I'm sure you can work something out on the side with the Clerk!! Drive (fly) straight and stay away from the Los Positas shopping center parking lot. Do not smuggle raisins down State Street, we have too much of that already. Stay away from the Westside and Eastside boys, and do not act gay even downtown...and leave your skateboards in the ship. Yeah 705, Why could it not be possible just because we haven't discovered it yet? The "New World" of America was possible even though a lot of closed minds didn't think it was. The H-Bomb was possible even though we didn't have any concept of it until the Curies came along. Let's not assume science has all the answers at any given moment. A true scientist always keeps an open mind, in fact he (or she) needs it in order to ask the questions that nobody else asks--that's how new things get discovered.

I see and feel unexplained things everyday. I except the experiences, learn from them and move on. There is more to human life then what we can actually see and explain. It is a level of exsistence that many people have a hard time excepting. You know that you saw something and whatever it is, just except it, learn from what you felt from it and move on. The explanation for this is what you need to learn from it. It may be telling you that you are ready to except the learning from the next level. Enjoy the journey!

It was clearly here to see the Sunken Gardens movie but arrived a day late and skedaddled. We all have unexplainable and unprovable experiences some times. Trying to get public support of validation for those experiences is a waste of time. It's okay to have had a very personal experience that was meaningful to you. However don't try to convince others of it as if it was meant for them they would've experienced it too!!

There are dogs, cats, other mammals, other vertebrates, invertebrates, plants, fungi, protists, etc. Billions of other beings. We need to be more understanding of other species in general, though we could start with being understanding of our own species.

I have a request for anyone posting information on any new sighting(s) next time. Would it be possible to 'guess-timate' an approximate size? I mean, are we talking small or large? We have trees and mountains for scale, unless of course the 'unit' is flying very high and size estimate would be difficult. People are chiming in here without knowing this critical detail. Thanks.
