A Long Ride Home

My 84 yr old father is attending my son's wedding in SB and I am looking for one way transportation back to his home in Santa Maria. He does not want to stay for the entire reception. Maybe a car service or would a taxi work?

Sorry, my fingers are too fast! I forgot to add that the casino bus only leaves at certain times, so may not work for this this gentleman. I forgot to add that you have to have a gambling card from the casino to board the bus. They do not take people back and forth for nothing.

Don't forget, if you take the casino bus, you have to have a gambling card from the casino.

Geez, I asked for help not snarky comments. Thanks for the referral to Dan Wagner, he sounds perfect. Since this is a late afternoon/eve wedding we needed someone to take him to his door. Yes I could drive him myself and miss close to 2 hours of my son's reception. My dad wanted to make sure that no one missed anything and in fact insisted that not happen.

All good suggestions. Or, you can just drive him!

What's the issue about grandpa using Greyhound? Is there a risk of mugging on board or contagion or simply association with folks who are not of the class you aspire to? Geez.

The Central Coast Flyer shuttle bus runs from SLO to LAX, with many stops in between. Not sure what their weekend schedule is, but you'd have to take him to the pickup spot out near the SB airport. Santa Maria stop is at IHOP near Marian Hosp. Sounds like the family might want to all chip in for A Dan Wagner trip for Grandpa. Sounds delightful, and it'd make a special day for G'pa even better.

Where will you be located and on what day did you want to travel?

The Clean Air Express leaves Downtown SB on weekdays (not holidays) at around 4:30 and 5:00 pm. Fare is $7

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, a COLT bus to Lompoc leaves the MTD bus terminal at 3:30 pm. It *may* get you to Lompoc in time to catch the Breeze Bus to Santa Maria.
(last Breeze Bus from Lompoc is at 5:30 pm)

Greyhound (which operates everyday) has a departure at 4:20 pm. Remember, the Greyhound station has moved to near the Amtrak station. Fare is $23

I don't know how much taxi fares are, but since SB and SM are about 75 miles apart (via US-101), the fare will definitely be in the triple digits...

Is there an airport shuttle from SBA to Santa Maria? If so, it should be somewhat cheaper than a cab...

Try Dan Wagner's Chauferring at 896-7264. Your car or his car or his minivan. Jovial retired CHP with a thousand delightful stories and friendly prices, accomodates wheelchairs and other mobility devices routinely.

Really? Put your grandpa on Greyhound? I imagine a taxi will take you.

Check with Amtrak. They have a bus from Santa Barabara to Santa Maria, or you can catch the Amtrak train in Goleta to Guadalupe with is about 8 miles from Santa Maria.

I hope you're not letting him ride back alone. If it was my 84 year old father, I certainly wouldn't let him ride back by himself.
