Goleta Power Outage
updated: Jul 25, 2012, 8:30 AM

By Edhat Subscriber

Do any readers know why the power has gone out twice in Old Town Goleta this Wednesday morning? 6:10 and 8:10 approx. I worry about leaving my computer on as this seems to be happening more frequently these days.

I'm near the Goleta Library and we also had the power outages. Each lasted only a minute or so but still.... What's up?

there must have been a major surge because it fried our router even though I had it connected to a surge protector. We're in Old Town Goleta

I called SCE and the recording indicated that they were trying to figure out the cause of the outage and that it should be restored shortly...

I'm no longer working in Old Town, so missed this outage. (Yeah!) We had regular outages over the 20 years I was there. I've talked to the Edison workers a couple times. "Old Town has some of the oldest lines and equipment any where around. They just added new parallel lines when they needed more, rather than upped the capacity and fixed it all. We're paying for those old decisions now." That's a shortened version of my conversation with them the last extended outage we had, where the outages hop-scotched around Old Town, with some of us out, and others not. The older buildings were the ones without power. Some day, I hope they actually redo most of the power to Old Town. Until then, buy UPSes and expect regular outages.

Mine went out about 2am for about 2 minutes and seems to have fried a monitor that was on a surge protector/UPS. I'm in Goleta, north of the freeway.

1:09 Wednesday AM thru midnight plus, Thursday AM. Old Town off Tecolote. So that's 24+ hours. Actually rare (lifetime experience at this address) compared to what Becky remembers from her place on Hollister.
