Wedding Anniversary
updated: Jul 23, 2012, 2:39 PM

My sister and brother in law are celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversary this Saturday July 28th. We are having a private party until 10pm but they were hoping to find someplace to go after the Party. Do your readers have any suggestions of what people in their 60's might enjoy going to from 10pm - 1am this Saturday. Piano Bar perhaps… Any suggestions would be great!

Sunset cruise on the Celebration. The boat leaves from the wharf and goes down the coast towards Montecito. Beautiful, relaxing trip. Champagne available of board

Does the biltmore still have the piano bar? That used to be cool.

Notice he is asking for what to do between 10 PM to 1AM. Other than the Maverick suggestion no one is actually reading the question because these thing are not possible during that time frame.

How about going to the the Wildcat to dance or taking a long cozy beach walk along East Beach on a warm summer night.

Go home and sip some fine brandy and play Charades or Pictionary or Trivial Pursuit or maybe even hold a midnight Texas Hold'em tourney.

Thanks, 548! Reading is a good thing.

Harry's? Someplace on Cabrillo, the Harbor, or wharf?
And take cab fare. In fact, reserve a cab van & driver ahead of time.
This is probably out of date, but last time I had a dinner/night out I used Jack at Lucky cab. 968-5020

Wild Cat or Eos, people? Unless they are 60 going on 20, I can't imagine them enjoying thumping dance beats.

What about Blue Agave? It's a great place for drinks on Saturday night.

First of all being in someone's 60's doesn't make them "old" infact that is the rock and roll generation so I recommend seeing what Soho has going on that night. I could ask my boss - he's 62 and acts younger than I do.

How about hearing the Ulysses Jazz Band at the James Joyce Pub? Mostly Dixieland and Trad. Jazz. They play till approx. 10:30 pm. It can get a little rambuctious but it's generally a more "mature" crowd. I'm 58 and I've enjoyed them many times.

You speak only for yourself 591.

My wife and I are closer to 70 than 60 and have celebrated our 42 wedding anniversary so are similar in age to the family the OP wants to entertain and we have danced at the Wildcat many times.

Youth is a state of mind, not a chronological age.

I agree. People have different preferences and age may not define them. While "only" in my late 50's, I think I would be bored by a piano bar - although anywhere there's really superlative music happening, people would probably have fun. It depends on the person what they're going to enjoy most! My taste is indie and post-rock. I may be just getting a little ...sensitive.. to making age assumptions. lol.

People in their 60's today are a far cry different then people in their 60's were when they were young.

(did that make sense?)

Soho has the Alan Jackson after party with Chapparal. My husband and I are 55 and just were there dancing for three hours last weekend. Great place to go. Always a good time. We don't care if we are the oldest ones on the dance floor. Lots of ages show up. Great place even for drinks.

What I would do - Reserve a Limo - Go to Vegas - sunrise cocktails at the MGM grand - over to the Tropicana for the pool - 40 is a big one congrats - we are at 31 - If Vegas is out - I would grab a cab - a very expensive bottle of Brandy - expensive cigars - head to the biltmore beach - and watch the sun rise - Good Luck and have fun

I thought those of us in our 60's crashed, whoops, I mean turned in by 8 pm due to rising at 5:30 am.

How about late night dessert & very adult beverage a local, high end hotel that stays open past 8 pm?

I once saw a great birthday card. Cover: "You're living proof that the fun doesn't have to end at 50." Inside: "No, the fun ends at 7:30." Hits pretty close to home...

Wait until you get into your 70s, 60s seems young; in fact, 70s actually feels young to me. I suggest asking the couple what they would like; the SOHO suggestion sound good to me. I love rock n' roll and dancing the night away.

Biltmore or San Ysidro Ranch Bar.

To bed early. But if they are still going strong after the party and want it to continue there a plenty of bars in the more upscale hotels that cater to the mellower/more affluent crowd. The Biltmore, the Canary, the Red Lion etc etc. Otherwise SoHo and Blue Agave are smart choices.

Ditto 760. Biltmore or San Ysidro bars. If near Goleta, add Bacara bar to the list. Music on weekends, always fun and classy and the people watching can't be beat. Really not that pricey for the service and location.

Over 60...you better get a gurney and some hot cocoa...WTF, what's with some of you suggesting that people in their 60's are tired, lazy, non energetic, no-fun people? WOW are you out to lunch! We go out ALL THE TIME, swim, hike, dance, camp, party, drink, play music (roc and roll thank you very much) and are way more alive than some young people we know. WAY MORE ALIVE so there!!
