Scanning Service
updated: Jul 20, 2012, 3:49 PM

I'm in need of a high-volume scanning service (from paper to computer file/thumb drive) that won't cost an arm and a leg. Just 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of paper, but several boxes full.

FedEx Office (i.e. Kinko's) has probably the best prices.

Well, if the estimates sound pricey, how about getting a Fuji Scan Snap and doing it yourself? It's a very speedy machine-- has a batch feeder and does 2 sides--- and runs about $450. It does a photos, too.

Oddly enough, you can get a duplex scanning all-in-one printer for far less than the cost of a dedicated scanner. Probably because they expect you to spend a ton on ink. I've seen them with 30 page document feeders and double sided scanning for as little as a hundred bucks on sale. The included software can be sketchy, tho.

If you don't mind the price and need two-sided scanning, I know a couple people who are very happy with their Fujitsu ScanSnaps and the included software. $450 is about right for the price of a low-end model with a 50 page document feeder.

The problem with the all-in-one scanners- even if they do duplex- is the time it would take to do a large job. They are SLOW! Looking forward to reading additional suggestions, though.
