UPDATE from the Santa Barbara Police Department: Thanks to our Nixle subscribers, the community, and partners in the media, this woman has been identified. On July 17, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. she appeared at SBPD and provided a statement to Detective Shamordola. The investigation is now continuing with efforts to recover the victim's property.

The woman wearing the blue scrubs pictured in the attached photographs is the suspect in a case of misappropriation of lost property.

On Friday, June 29, 2012 at 3:30 p.m., an elderly Santa Barbara resident went into CVS Pharmacy at 3939 State Street and, following her purchase, accidentally left her wallet on the checkout counter. About 5 minutes later, the suspect completed a transaction at the same counter and as she walked away, reached down and picked up the victim's wallet, put it into her pocket, and left with it. Inside the wallet were the rightful owner's name, address, phone number, and other identifying information.

The suspect has made no attempt to contact the owner or to return the over $400.00 in cash that was inside. The owner is also now missing other important contents of her wallet including her Social Security Card and Medicare Card.

Misappropriation of lost property is a crime of theft. If you recognize this woman please contact SBPD Detective Kristin Shamordola at (805) 963-2328 / kshamordola@sbpd.com or call anonymously to (805) 897-2386.
